Stitched Wooden Mirror – Craftiosity

This stitched wooden mirror kit from Craftiosity was short and simple, which is just what you need from a craft sometimes; something that can be finished within a couple of hours, but still look great at the end. It’s also a different take on the usual embroidery projects. I’ve noticed on social media that people are becoming more experimental with what they use to stitch with and on, so this is a great little project to have a go at using something other than fabric.

Included in the kit was:

  • Wooden mirror frame
  • Mirror
  • Embroidery thread x2 (grey, dusky pink)
  • Needle
  • Glue

The method for this project was very straightforward, just use the thread to sew in and out of the holes following the pattern. The second stage of stitching was slightly more complicated as it had to weave in and out of the first stitches to create the right pattern, but it was definitely worth doing as it gives the finished piece a more thoughtful, polished look.

The last step was to glue in the mirror which was quick to do, but recommended to leave to set for 24 hours before hanging it up.

Stitching into wood has a very different feel to stitching into fabric. It’s a lot more restrictive as the design has to be planned out first and once the holes are drilled you can’t deviate from the plan otherwise you will be left with empty holes. It is however a lot more sturdy than sewing into paper or card – there’s no chance of ripping it! The design of this embroidery was really easy to follow and good practice for a beginner at stitching into alternative materials.
